What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is clearly a definable state of hyper-focus and awareness inward and most often utilizes the Alpha and Theta levels of the mind. Hypnotherapy brings processes of hypnosis and counseling together and is one of the most powerful methods which, offers clients the ability to develop skills and resources that allows them to change their life. All hypnosis is Self-Hypnosis. A typical person experiences a hypnosis state an average of five-times on their own every day, meaning that hypnosis is a very natural process which, most people may not know they are already very good at. Your subconscious mind is designed to take good care of you and is the part of your mind and body that can manifest healing.

What is the difference between the Subconscious and the Conscious Mind?

Serves as a memory bank: Here in the brain with the help of billions of tiny interconnected nerve cells, everything that we ever experienced is stored. The subconscious is actually the very cells of the body, storing a maze of memory patterns which, when activated will feed information to the conscious mind. Nothing is ever erased unless the computer in the subconscious mind gives the command.

Controls and regulates the involuntary functions of the body: Breathing, circulation, metabolism, digestion, hormone balance, etc. Hypnosis allows us to improve and balance these functions.

The subconscious is the seat of our emotions: Since our emotions govern the strength of our desires, and these affect our behavior, many issues have a very strong emotional content that is key in utilizing our subconscious.

It is the home of the imagination: Even when not used, each of us has a strong and active imagination that can be used in a positive way to create a compelling vision of the future self. Creative visualization is one of the greatest secrets of success. We can use this function to create and anchor changes in the subconscious for the conscious mind to duplicate.

It carries out habitual conduct: Through the use of direct and indirect suggestion in hypnosis we can create a system of habits that support and create the lives we want.

The subconscious is a dynamo that directs our energy, the energy that drives us towards our goals: It generates and releases energy, and it is not consistently directed, it is directed by circumstances and chance. Through positive reprogramming the subconscious is directed towards creating the goals. We can control our future by channeling our energy constructively to create our goals.

What is EMDR?

EMDR was discovered in 1989 by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro when she noticed that eye movements reduce the intensity and duration of disturbing thoughts. It has since evolved through extensive research, studies, and contributions made by therapists for the treatment of areas such as: Trauma, Panic Attacks, Complicated Grief, Personality Disorders, Disturbing Memories, Performance Anxiety, Sexual and/or Physical Abuse, Pain disorders, Stress Reduction, Phobias, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Addictions.

How does EMDR work?

“EMDR in some way is able to “nudge” that material so that it neurologically reconnects with the healthy brain and then is reprocessed and integrated at an accelerated speed.

The most popular theory is that when the eyes move back and forth it creates brain activity similar to that which occurs during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. It's during this REM phase (when we dream) that we resolve conflicts, process information and consolidate learning and memory.

More simply put, information processing takes place. By creating similar brain activity, while thinking about the painful event, it appears that EMDR is able to help the brain finally process the “stuck” material, enabling the person to arrive at an adaptive resolution. The painful event or trauma becomes an unfortunate memory but it no longer produces the emotional pain that it did before.”

What is RDI?

RDI or Resource Development and Installation is a powerful tool for preparing for and lowering difficulty and resistance during and EMDR process. It is an invaluable tool utilized prior to and in the EMDR preparation phase that greatly supports the best EMDR process possible.

How long does EMDR take?

One or more sessions are required so that I may fully understand the the nature of you problem and assess whether EMDR is appropriate. We also utilize this time to answer your questions and discuss  EMDR more fully. Once we have agreed that EMDR is appropriate for you we begin the EMDR therapy process. A typical session is from 50 minutes to 90 minutes. The type of problem you are experiencing, life circumstances and environment, as well as amount of trauma in you history will determine how many sessions are needed. EMDR can be utilized as part of a psychotherapy process, as a treatment process itself, or as an adjunct therapy by a separate providing therapist.
